This is one of the questions I ask in our free one hour chats, and out of all of the questions I ask, this is THE question, this is what REALY MATTERS, the HONEST, DEEP DOWN reason why someone has come to see what I can do for THEM.
By the time I ask this question I would have most likely already been told that they want to “Lose weight”, “Get Fit”, “Feel better”. Most will also tell me that they have been reading these slightly weird ramblings of a crazed Personal Trainer for a while and finally decided they had to “do something”.
But why NOW? Why didn’t they phone last week? Last month? Last year?
And when I do get THAT answer, that’s when I hear about the stuff that most people bury down deep and try to ignore.
This is when I hear how they are miserable because they can’t walk with their partner due to sore knees or no energy and of missed overseas trips due to lack of fitness. I learn of wanting to improve handicaps in golf or being able to spend the whole day bowling without feeling like a steamroller hit you.
I’m told about ever expanding waist lines and saggy girly bits squeezed into dresses that looked great last summer but have shrunk – which, by the way, is really caused by the calorie fairies who sneak in and sew your clothes smaller! Wicked little beasties aren’t they! And yes, I’ve been told of ex partners who are about to be shown what a huge mistake they’ve made!
These are the dreams that people don’t want to admit to because, well… because although we all know that we could do something to fix all this stuff, actually doing it? Well that’s when we can struggle alone and feel like a failure which is sucky and unnecessary since most of this can be easily solved with some exercise and healthy nutrition.
So what does it take to reach that point where you know, deep down, in that place that always insists on telling you the truth, even when you don’t want to hear it, in a voice that sounds like a mix of your Nana, your Mum and you, that it’s NOW time to do “Something”.
Is it a sibling or close friend becoming ill, or retirement travel dreams that are not so easy to achieve when you can’t walk and sit comfortably. Or do you just really want to be able to tell that annoying bloke you have to listen to bragging on the 19th hole that you just knocked another 3 off your handicap!
Whatever it took to reach now, now is the time for your “something”. But hang on, what is your magic “something”?
Ahhhhh now that’s where we come in, because unless you find something that suits your lifestyle, your dream and most importantly your body, it’s never going to work. If you need help finding your something then guess who can help? Go one then… ask yourself the question “WHY NOW?” Listen to the reason, that deep down Nana/Mum/You voice reason, find your something, and enjoy your happiness!
